It should be no surprise that I’m attempting the 100 Mile Wilderness again.
As you probably know by now, I will not be attempting a thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail this summer. Instead, I’ll be road tripping around the country with my favorite person and my favorite dog.
However, after not completing this stretch of the trail last summer my dad and I are determined to finish it this year.
IT and I are doing things a little differently – we won’t be carrying all our food the whole way. We’re starting on Katahdin, since Cheyenne and my Dad are joining us for the 100 Mile Wilderness, but not for any of Baxter, we’ll be starting with only 2 days worth of food. Dad will be holding the next 3-4 days worth of food with him, and we’re going to be picking up the rest of our food at Whitehouse Landing so we don’t have to carry everything from the beginning.
As of yesterday morning all my gear weighs ~29lbs. That’s including water, all 10 days of food, and most of the clothes I’ll be taking. However, it does not include shoes or trekking poles. For most of the trail I should be under 25lbs pack weight – this does not include worn items. When we start Katahdin I will have a 16.5lb pack.
We’ll be leaving tomorrow, June 29th. This time, starting with the highest peak in Maine.
No one guessed the location of my “Where Am I?” post: The top of Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park.
